The facilities of the former border guard post at Sabotin host an innovative multimedia visitor centre. The centre comprises a museum, an info point and numerous remains, which make it an important stop along the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic trail. Through the presentation of the World War I heritage and the Isonzo Front, the centre rises awareness of the futility of war and encourages harmony among nations.
The centre also presents the rich flora and fauna of Mt. Sabotin, as the hill is also an interesting botanical area.
Mt. Sabotin is a popular hiking, biking and family destination, as it offers beautiful views in every direction. But, undoubtably, it attracts many history aficionados and organised groups with its turbulent history and rich flora and fauna.
Funds for the creation of the Visitor Centre on Sabotin were contributed by the Soča Valley Development Centre (Posoški razvojni center) through the WALKofPEACE project within the Interreg V-A Italy–Slovenia Programme and the Municipality of Nova Gorica with the support of the Municipality of Brda.
Arriving from the village of Plave:
From the main road Tolmin–Nova Gorica turn right in the village of Plave and follow the road for Brda. After the village of Vrhovlje pri Kojskem turn left at the intersection for Sabotin. Follow the tarmac road (approx. 4 kilometres) to the mountain hut on Mt. Sabotin.
Arriving from the town of Solkan:
In Solkan, cross the bridge and continue towards Brda. Follow the road until the village of Gonjače, where you turn right for the village of Plave. Soon after you will see the road for Sabotin on your right. From here, you have approximately 4 kilometres on a tarmac road to the hut on Mt. Sabotin.
