Route of the Austro-Hungarian Entrenched Camp of Ragogna

Hiking Families Researchers Groups
Easy | 2‒3 hrs

Along the Tagliamento River, the Austro-Hungarian soldiers built fortified positions of defence with machine-gun emplacements, pillboxes, tunnels, and a system of trenches in the last year of World War I (November 1917–November 1918). These positions served as defence against a possible counterattack by the Italian Army. Today, these remains are incorporated into the footpath called Itinerario del campo trincerato austro-ungarico di Ragogna, which is one of the four trails in the Ragogna area that inform visitors about the events of the last year of World War I in the Ragogna area and its surroundings. To complete this educational trail, it is recommended that you visit the WW1 museum Museo della Grande Guerra di Ragogna.
