Walk along the historical educational trail and breathe in the beauties of nature, listen to the stories of time and enjoy the views and the authentic traditional dishes. Let yourself be captivated.
Walk along a part of the Kobarid historical trail. Ascend up to the Italian charnel house around the Church of St. Anthony and walk past the names of 7,014 Italian soldiers who lie here. Cross the Napoleon Bridge and continue to the wooden footbridge by the Soča River. The Italian defence line runs nearby with restored caverns. Only a short walk separates you from here to the most picturesque part of the tour, the Kozjak Waterfall whose waters formed a real underground hall.
Kobarid Museum is dedicated to the events that took place on the Isonzo Front during World War I. It presents the 2,5-year long battles in the Upper Soča Valley, putting a special emphasis on the Twelfth Isonzo Battle known also as the Battle of Kobarid (Karfreit, Caporetto).
The views over the Julian Alps, the Soča Valley and the Friuli Plain from Kolovrat makes you awestruck at the sheer natural beauty. These are then topped with the scenes of the Great war that appear in front of your eyes. Here stands the cross-border outdoor museum Kolovrat with its caves and a system of trenches, commanding posts, artillery and machine gun positions. A local tour guide can take you 100 years back in time. An animation programme and an army-style lunch are possible for groups.
