During World War I the Italian Army built fortified positions at the eastern edge of the village of Jevšček and secured them with barbed wire. A part of these positions was restored by the villagers in 2017. In the night of 25 October 1917, Erwin Rommel with his soldiers, raided these positions and spent the night in the village in the direct vicinity of the 14th Bersaglieri Regiment of the 4th Brigade. At the earliest dawn he attacked the positions above the village and set off to conquer Mt. Matajur. It was conquered that same day at 11:40.
