Church of St. Nicholas in Iainich/Jagnjed

The Church of St. Nicholas dates from the Middle Ages. This traditional alpine chapel was restored in the 19th century. On the stone wall beside the church there are the crosses of German soldiers who died here on 27 October 1917 during the breakthrough by the German and Austro-Hungarian Army in the Friuli plains. A memorial stone and a tombstone testify to fierce battles of the Italian brigade Elba during the battle on Mt. Spig/Špik and along the defence line Purgessimo‒Castelmonte/Stara gora‒Iainich/Jagnjed.
