During World War I the fallen soldiers and prisoners of war were buried in several locations between the Trenta Valley and Kranjska Gora. In the immediate vicinity of Erjavčeva koča Mountain Hut there are two burial sites. North-east of the hut lies a smaller cemetery, where, according to the data from the Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage – 63 Russian POWs are buried. West from the hut, there are three separate graves. The grave stones that you see today do not originate from the period of World War I, as the cemetery was renovated in the 1990s. Today’s burial site does not give a real picture on how many people and how many graves were here in a bigger cemetery.

If coming from the Vršič pass towards Kranjska Gora, you will see two burial grounds of Russian POWs on the right side of the road. The first lies within a wooden enclosure next to the parking lot of the refuge Erjavčeva koča. A wooden signpost by the road after the next turn and a wooden cross standing higher up by the fence at the edge of the clearing show the way to the second burial ground.
