The Park of Military History Pivka is not just the largest museum complex in the Republic of Slovenia, but also the only military museum in Europe where you can find everything from the oldest existing bows to the extraordinary collection of armoured vehicles and military aircraft, a German military locomotive from World War II and, the highlight of the museum, a submarine which can be also seen from the inside. Visitors to the Park of Military History can also try out the supersonic MiG-21 or the legendary World War II Supermarine Spitfire flight simulators.
As a modern museum centre, the Park of Military History offers a lot more – a museum restaurant, a well-stocked museum shop, a camper rest area and several nice walking and hiking trails.
The Vallo Alpino Fortification on Hill Primož and the Circular Trail of Military History
Arriving from the direction of Pivka, take the exit for Ilirska Bistrica at the roundabout by the petrol station in Pivka and continue on that road. You will pass the railway station and at the end of the town the road will take you under the railway underpass. After the underpass turn left at the next crossroad for the Park of Military History.
