Above Monfalcone/Tržič rises a hill with the fortress La Rocca. It was built in the 16th century by the Venetians for defensive purposes and is a symbol of Monfalcone. It was erected on the remains of a pre-Roman and a later Roman fort from the time of the Patriarchate.
Inside the fortress is a small museum (Museo della Rocca) with paleontological and speleological sections. There are many thematic paths in the vicinity of the fortress, among them also World War I trenches, caves, etc., as a part of the outdoor museum Parco Tematico della Grande Guerra Monfalcone.
