The Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Fogliano/Foljan is located next to the civil cemetery, only a kilometre away from the Italian Charnel House in Redipuglia/Redipulja. The inscription above the entrance reads: Im Leben und im Tode vereint (United in life and death). Buried in the cemetery are 14,550 Austro-Hungarian soldiers who fell in this area. A long cypress alley leads to the grand tomb where 7,000 unknown soldiers are interred. The tomb bears an inscription in homage to the soldiers who fell for their homeland. All around are 2,550 graves of identified soldiers marked with small concrete headstones. There are two more collective tombs in the cemetery, in which mortal remains of 5,000 unknown soldiers rest.
