Artillery Battery on Mt. Cumieli

As part of the “Sbarramento di Ospedaletto” defence system, part of which was also the fort Monte Ercole, a permanent artillery battery was set up on the hill Cumieli and the saddle of Sella di Sant’Agnese. Nothing has been preserved on the saddle, but positions on the hill Monte Cumieli can still be seen, where medium-calibre guns and two anti-aircraft guns were emplaced. Due to the panoramic view and its strategic position, the German Army fortified the hill and used it as an observation post during World War II.
