After 1934, an Italian border-guard barracks was built in the mountain valley Za Lepočami below Mt. Bogatin as part of the Rapallo border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The extensive barracks complex once numbered seven masoned structures, and erected in front of the main building was a monument to nine soldiers who were killed by an avalanche.
