Fusine Lakes/Belopeška jezera Lakes

Hiking Biking Families

Fusine Lakes/Belopeška jezera Lakes are one of the must-see points in Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. They are located near Tarvisio/Trbiž/Tarvis, not far from the state border between Italy and Slovenia. The two lakes under the Mangart mountain range and Ponza/Ponca, connected with easy paths, are of glacial origin. The lakes were formed during the retreat of glaciers (circa 15,000–16,000 years ago). Due to the local microclimate, the Fusine Lakes depression is an example of “inverted” vegetation belts.
The surroundings of the lakes offer hikes of different length. Additional to the classic tour of the two lakes, the path to the Zacchi refuge is the most popular.
