The 949 metres high mountain above Čiginj was occupied by Italian soldiers at the very beginning of World War I. Numerous artillery positions were arranged on it, from which they controlled the front line in the Tolmin Basin, on Mengore and Cvetje. However, these positions became involved in direct battles only during the Twelfth Isonzo Battle, when they were conquered by German soldiers.
