Stelvio National Park ‒ Beyond the Footsteps of History

The Lombardy mountains, specifically within the Stelvio National Park and the Adamello Regional Park, preserve the evidence of World War I and the conflictʼs enduring legacy on the Alpine landscape. In these rugged areas—once the stage for extreme survival amid perennial snow and ice—history re-emerges today within a natural context of extraordinary beauty.

Thanks to the initiative of the Lombardy Region (Directorate General for Autonomy and Culture) and the coordination of ERSAF, these sites of memory are now accessible through a network of zero-impact thematic itineraries. The visitor experience is enriched by the app “Oltre le tracce della storia” (Beyond the Traces of History), which gives voice to the remains of the Austro-Italian Front through multimedia narratives and in-depth descriptions: sixteen routes designed to transform hiking into a conscious journey through history.
