Sentiero della Pace (Path of Peace) in Trentino

Stretching across 604 kilometres, the Sentiero della Pace (Path of Peace) is a monumental trail that retraces the frontline of World War I in Trentino. The project’s roots lie in the vision of Walter Schaumann and his wife, who pioneered the concept of Friedenswege (Paths of Peace) in the 1960s with the Carinthian Friedensweg. In 1986, engineer and historian Claudio Fabbro gave the route its definitive form, organizing it into its current stage-based structure.

Winding through rock-hewn trenches, armoured forts, and the ruins of military barracks, the trail offers a profound immersion into European memory. Its 12 stages are suitable for hikers of all abilities: from scenic, family-friendly paths to technical via ferratas for seasoned experts. Every stage invites visitors to experience the harshness of the mountains and the resilience of those who lived and fought among these peaks more than a century ago. More than just a hiking trail, it is an invitation to walk through history in the pursuit of peace.
