The sculpture, created by sculptor Ferenc Varga, was unveiled on the 25 May 1941 in Heroes’ Park, next to the main street of Kiskunfélegyháza. The monument represents a WW1 infantry soldier holding a weapon in his hand, commemorating the 400 heroes who died for the city. During the half-century following the unveiling, the condition of the monument deteriorated significantly, and one of the reliefs on the pedestal was removed after World War II. The monument was renovated in 1997. The relief depicting the artillery scene was modeled and recast by sculptor Mihály Morell. The re-inauguration took place on the 1 November 1997.
The monument is in good condition and well maintained. It is easily accessible for people with limited mobility.
