Temporary House (for Returning Refugees) Sint-Jan

World War I Remains

This site, though in very poor condition, remembers the history of more than 45.000 refugee families that returned in the Westhoek. But because their houses were destroyed, the Belgian authorities decided to build temporary wooden houses for the returning families. Only one of the 25.000 barracks survived since today, even if the structure is contaminated.
The house is easily reachable and is promoted by In Flanders Fields Museum.
