Military Cemetery and Memorial Cross near Uzhhorod Railway Station

Military Cemetery

Located near a major transportation hub, this cemetery is easily accessible. The proximity to Uzhhorod contributed to the fact that the cemetery was better maintained.
During World War I, two military hospitals (one general and one for infectious diseases) were located near the railway station. Wounded and sick soldiers who died in these hospitals were buried in the military cemetery, which was created on the adjacent territory. About 11,000 people (7,000 of them unknown) were buried here. This cemetery was one of the largest World War I military cemeteries in Eastern Europe.
