During World War I, this site near the Ypres Salient front line served as a French medical dressing station, with burials in the adjacent garden. Restored and expanded after the war, Saint-Charles de Potyze now holds 4,209 French graves, including 762 unidentified and 616 within a mass grave. Designated a protected monument in 2008, it achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 2023.
The Ypres tourism office and Westtoer (West Flanders) are responsible for the promotion.
