Cloth Hall

Monument/Memorial

The Cloth Hall with the Belfry Tower, dating back to the 13th century, was once Europe’s largest secular building. Destroyed by fire in 1914 during WW1’s First Battle of Ypres, only part of the belfry tower remained. After the war it was reconstructed and in 1998 the In Flanders Fields Museum opened in the Cloth Hall.
The Ypres tourist office, located within the Cloth Hall, manages communications for commemorative events related to the building and surrounding area.
