Bellewaarde Ridge

World War I Remains

Bellewaarde Ridge, a WW1 battlefield, is Flanders’ only protected WW1 archaeological site. Its historical and archaeological significance stems from intense fighting (1915–1917) and underground tunneling warfare. The site boasts well-preserved subsurface trench remains, adding to its unique value. Visible mine craters further enhance its significance.
Managed by the City of Ypres/In Flanders Fields Museum, the site is promoted regionally by Westtoer, a West Flanders tourism agency.
