Belgian Military Cemetery Houthulst

Military Cemetery

During World War I, the Vrijbos (Houthulst forest) became a heavily fortified German stronghold; the forest was almost entirely destroyed and only partially reforested. Adjacent agricultural land became the site of the Houthulst Belgian military cemetery (1924-1925). Designed by Blondeau and Moreau, the 394-are-cemetery’s layout resembles a six-pointed star with red shingle paths.
Ypres tourist office, the Municipality of Houthulst and Westtoer are in charge of the promotion.
