American Cemetery Flanders Fields

Military Cemetery

The Flanders Field American Cemetery and Memorial in Waregem, Belgium, is the sole permanent US WW1 cemetery in the country. Inaugurated in 1937, it honors 411 US service members. 368 are interred, their headstones arranged in four symmetrical areas surrounding a central white stone chapel. Inside, a black and white marble altar is flanked by draped flags, and 43 names are inscribed on the Walls of the Missing.
The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) manages the cemetery and collaborates with partners like the Waregem Tourism Office, City Archives, US Embassy in Brussels and the In Flanders Fields Museum.
