This memorial honors the 8th Infantry Sea Regiment, one of Bulgaria’s most distinguished military units. Built in 1936, it originally served as the entrance to the regiment’s barracks. Today, it stands on 8th Primorski Polk Blvd., near Chataldja Street, preserved after the boulevard’s expansion in 1974.
Designed as a triumphal arch, the monument features two large statues by Kiril Shivarov—a soldier and a volunteer—symbolizing heroism. Over 3,000 names of fallen soldiers from the Balkan Wars and World War I are engraved on its walls.
Inside, two maps show the regiment’s battle routes, and verses by Ivan Vazov, Pencho Slaveykov, and Emmanuel Mutafov pay tribute to its legacy.
The regiment was founded in 1878 and became legendary during the Dobrich Epopee in 1916, when it helped secure victory against Romanian and Russian forces. The battle cost nearly 3,000 casualties, including 160 soldiers and four officers.
The memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the regiment’s bravery and sacrifice.
