War Cemetery No. 138 in Bogoniowice

Military Cemetery

Discover Bogoniowice’s War Cemetery No. 138, a poignant WW1 site designed by Jan Szczepkowski. It was established after fierce fighting in May 1915 during the Gorlice-Tarnów offensive,. The cemetery is the last resting place of 102 soldiers from Austria-Hungary, Russia and Germany. Notable burials include Rittmeister Oswald von Richthofen (unrelated to the Red Baron).
Renovated in 2023, the triangular, terraced cemetery features a striking central monument, stone chapels and meticulously maintained graves.
