This cemetery, initially used by the French, became a Commonwealth casualty clearing station in June 1915. It holds 10,784 graves: 9,901 Commonwealth WW1 burials (24 unidentified), 883 war graves of other nationalities (mostly French and German, 11 unidentified), and 1 non-WW1 burial. In the following decades, 41 more burials were transferred there. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, it’s Belgium’s second largest Commonwealth cemetery. Rectangular, with a main entrance on the road, it features grass paths, timber benches, and undulating ground.
