Prvo kr\u0161\u010dansko sveti\u0161\u010de naj bi bilo vrh hriba postavljeno \u017ee v rimskem obdobju. Cerkev je bila ve\u010dkrat obnovljena in prezidana. Prizadeli so jo po\u017eari (15. stoletje), oplenili so jo francoski vojaki (1797) in med obstreljevanjem v drugi svetovni vojni po\u0161kodovali Nemci. Zaradi tur\u0161kih vpadov sta bila sveti\u0161\u010de in samostan obdana z obzidjem, ki se je ohranilo.<br \/>\nSamostan pripada <strong>fran\u010di\u0161kanom<\/strong>. Stara gora je vklju\u010dena v povezavo treh cerkva, ki jih romarji lahko obi\u0161\u010dejo pe\u0161, s kolesom ali avtomobilom. Poleg Stare gore sta vklju\u010deni \u0161e Sveta Gora nad Novo Gorico in Marijino Celje na Ligu.
