Po hudih bojih sredi junija 1918 je avstro-ogrski vojski uspelo pre\u010dkati reko Piavo v njenem spodnjem toku med krajema Candel\u00f9 in Caposile. Kljub \u0161tevilnim poskusom, pri katerih so bili kot okrepitev vklju\u010deni mnogi rezervisti, pa njihovim \u010detam ni uspelo prodreti dlje od frontne \u010drte.
