V dolo\u010denih obdobjih je napolnjeno z vodo, drugi\u010d pa je skoraj suho. Skupaj z edinstveno pokrajino je del <strong>Naravnega rezervata Doberdobskega in Prelosnega jezera\/Riserva naturale dei laghi di Doberd\u00f2 e Pietrarossa<\/strong>. <strong>Med boji na Krasu je predstavljalo zelo pomemben vir oskrbe z vodo \u017ee pregovorno suhega kra\u0161kega obmo\u010dja.<\/strong> Ime je dobilo po bli\u017enjem kraju Doberdob\/Doberd\u00f2 del Lago, ki je najve\u010dji kraj na planoti.
