Nel XIII secolo i vescovi di Trieste\/Trst avevano un palazzo con una torre di guardia su questa collina. Durante la Repubblica Veneziana vi fu costruita una fortezza. Nella seconda met\u00e0 del XV secolo, l\u2019imperatore Federico III d\u2019Asburgo fece costruire sulle sue rovine un castello e l\u2019immagine odierna \u00e8 il risultato della successiva ricostruzione sia dei Veneziani che degli Asburgo. Nei sotterranei gli austriaci avevano allestito una prigione.Oggi il castello ospita il <strong>museo cittadino<\/strong> con una collezione di armi medievali.
