Durante il Ducato Longobardo fu sede della corte reale e residenza del funzionario di corte (camerlengo). L\u2019Oratorio di Santa Maria in Valle, noto anche come il <strong>Tempietto Longobardo<\/strong>, vanta dell\u2019architettura e arte dall\u2019VIII secolo. Fu costruito come cappella palatina della corte reale, in seguito venne utilizzato come oratorio per le monache fino alla fine del XIX secolo, quando fu donato al Comune.
