Durante la Grande Guerra Sveto, collocato lungo la tratta ferroviaria che collegava Dutovlje a Kostanjevica era un paese delle retrovie austro-ungariche molto trafficato. Alla sua periferia sorgevano vari magazzini, accampamenti e gruppi di baracche. Nell\u2019estate del 1915 la Croce rossa ungherese organizz\u00f2 nei pressi della chiesa di S. Egidio il \u201cFeldlazarett n. 1\u201d (ospedale da campo n. 1) e non lontano da esso fu realizzato il cimitero di guerra. Gi\u00e0 nel 1916 nel cimitero fu eretto il monumento centrale a forma di obelisco, visibile ancora oggi assieme alla targa originale che ricorda i costruttori e i soldati morti nel vicino ospedale.
