Durante la Grande Guerra, nel <strong>novembre del 1917<\/strong>, dopo la ritirata di Caporetto, l\u2019infrastruttura fu fatta <strong>brillare per evitare l\u2019avanzata delle truppe austriache<\/strong>. Dopo la <strong>Battaglia di Vittorio Veneto, nel 1918<\/strong>, le due sponde del \u201cfiume sacro alla Patria\u201d furono ricollegate, dapprima con un ponte di barche, e successivamente, nel 1919, in legno. Tra il 1921 e il 1922 il ponte fu ricostruito, su una struttura metallica, che \u00e8 ancora oggi in uso.
